Stay Steady and Active - New Falls Prevention Campaign for all Partners

Residents aged 60 plus are invited to the Hounslow Stay Steady and Active launch, where they will learn ways to help increase activity levels, test balance abilities, and reduce the risks of falls. The event is Tuesday, 22 October, 10am - 1pm at Hanworth air park leisure centre, Uxbridge Rd, Feltham, TW13 5EG

On the day there will be a range of FREE activities, health and community stalls, free health checks, plus a slipper exchange.

Visitors at the Stay Steady and Active launch can enjoy free taster sessions, speak to a physio and swap an older pair of slippers for a new sturdy pair. Visitors can also learn about the new tailored activity programme designed specifically for residents aged 60 plus launching in November.

All activities have been designed by health and community partners to offer something fun for the over 60s. Residents can:

  • Relax with a yoga session
  • Participate in a strength and balance class
  • Enjoy a dance class
  • Test the new Lampton Leisure EGYM
  • Talk to a physio
  • Get a blood pressure reading
  • Swap an old pair of slippers for a new pair
  • Test their balance with our Health Outreach Team
  • Have a FREE swim session

New slipper exchange

At the event residents can bring in their old slippers in and exchange them for a new pair on the day. Proper slippers can play a significant role in preventing falls, while old, worn-out ones can lead to serious injuries, resulting in hospitalisation and a loss of independence and confidence.

The new slippers are designed with features including secure fastenings and sturdy soles (the slipper swap operates on a first come first served basis, and one pair per person).

Felice Fisher, Clinical Services Manager for Hounslow Specialist Integrated Services, West London NHS Trust, said:

“The West London NHS Trust Falls Prevention and Bone Health Service are really excited to be working with community providers and Hounslow Council for the launch of the Staying Steady and Active Campaign.

“We are excited to see the wide range of community opportunities to support residents of Hounslow to stay active and offer information about how our service can work alongside community groups for reduce the risk of falls."

Councillor Lily Bath, Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Transformation, said:

“Stay Steady and Active aims to make it easier for residents aged 60 and over to increase their activity levels, reduce their risk of falls, and help them to test their balance abilities.

“Increasing your activity level helps to improve your strength and balance, which helps to prevent falls. Regular physical activity also increases bone health, reducing the risk of injuries and fractures associated with falls.”

Stay Steady and Active is a new partnership campaign designed by:
