Homeless Health Workshop
It is well known that people experiencing homelessness face significant health difficulties and inequalities with poorer outcomes than the general population. The average age of death for someone experiencing homelessness is 30 years lower than the general population.
The Hounslow Public Health Team recently collaborated with local homeless services and homeless link to conduct a homeless health needs audit. These findings will be presented on Wednesday 30th October 1:30pm to 4:30pm on MS teams.
If you have an interest in health and in particular homelessness, then please join to learn how Hounslow can help to improve health outcomes for people experiencing homelessness. The Hounslow homelessness health inequalities project is part of the CORE20 plus 5 priorities.

22 October 2024, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Please join us for a lunch and learn which will showcase the Health Inequalities Research Findings in CORE20 areas.
CORE20PLUS5 is a national strategy designed to reduce health inequalities. The CORE20PLUS5 project aims to help us build an understanding of our residents impacted by health inequalities and develop and evaluate interventions to improve their health outcomes. There are 12 CORE20 areas in Hounslow. You can find out more about these locations in the link below.
During the lunch and learn, you will get to hear about the extensive data analysis and community engagement efforts that took place over the past six months (Jan-July) by nine local VCSE groups. This work has provided deep insights into the challenges faced by those living in the most deprived areas of Hounslow (CORE20 areas).
This event will present the findings from these activities, emphasising the voices of residents.
Attendees will benefit from learning the following:
- Health inequalities in CORE20 areas
- Findings from data analysis
- The merits of delivering targeted community engagement via VCSE partners
- Resident feedback
- How the findings link with current Health and Care organisation priorities and projects
- How next steps will flow into the new Integrated Neighbourhood Teams (INTs).
Our aim is that Hounslow Borough Based Partners (BBP) and local stakeholders will come away from this event with a greater understanding of local health insight and inequalities and will work with us to help shape and deliver actionable steps towards improving outcomes in these communities.

Help Hounslow residents to quit smoking – take the VBA training
Healthy Hounslow is offering Very Brief Advice (VBA) training as part of this year’s Stoptober campaign to help people effectively engage in quick, impactful conversations with residents about how to quit smoking.
Why should I take the training?
Almost 40,000 people in Hounslow smoke and quitting is the best thing a smoker can do for their health. It improves physical health and has also been proven to boost mental health and wellbeing. By taking this training, you will become equipped to help smokers take their first step to quit.
VBA is a proven 30-second clinical intervention that identifies smokers, advises them on the best method of quitting, and links them to evidence-based stop smoking support. It’s suitable for anyone who has regular contact with residents; including healthcare professionals, those who work in commissioned services, and those who work in the VCSE sector.
When is the training?
Healthy Hounslow is hosting three online training sessions in October:
- Tuesday, 22 October 10:00 – 11:00
- Friday, 25 October 15:00 – 16:00
- Tuesday, 29 October 15:00 – 16:00
How do I sign up?
Please sign up to a training session on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/smoking-vba-training-tickets-1049489500347?aff=oddtdtcreator
There is also an in-person VBA training at Hounslow House (TW3 3EB) on Thursday, 31 October at 10.30-11.30 and a Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training at 13.30-15.30.
