Improve your confidence in having healthy lifestyle & behaviour change conversations with others with the MoreLife CPD accredited Training session
About this event
- Online event lasts 2 hours
At MoreLife we understand that behavior change, although beneficial in preventing disease can be very challenging & during these uncertain times maintaining a healthy lifestyle has not been possible for all.
MECC will provide you with the skills, confidence and tools to have a positive and effective conversation about health and behaviour change; particularly around weight management, stopping smoking and increasing physical activity. Having even a brief chat with someone about what is happening in their life can be all it takes to make a positive impact to their health and wellbeing. That’s where the MECC training will help you.
What is MECC?
MECC is an approach to behaviour change. It utilises the millions of day-to-day interactions organisations and individuals have with other people to support them in making positive changes to their physical and mental wellbeing. This model is relevant for everyone who comes into contact with people and has an opportunity to encourage positive behaviour change. However, we know that telling people what to do is not the most effective way to help them change. Making Every Contact Count is about altering how we interact with people through having Healthy Conversations and learning how to spot opportunities to talk to people about their wellbeing.
Our CPD accredited Training course is 2 hours long delivered by an engaging practitioner covering;
1. What is MECC & How is it relevant to you and your job role?
2. Identify opportunities to start a healthy conversation around health & wellbeing.
3. Understand your own barriers and enable you to feel more confident in having a healthy lifestyle conversation.
4. Identify the key healthy conversation skills to support someone
To make sure you get the most from your training with us we would like to ask a few simple questions to help us tailor our approach to best suit your needs so participants will be contacted by email with a Pre Course Questionnaire to complete prior to training. All relevant course materials & key information will be sent to participants once training completed, along with the Course Feedback and Evaluation form which will need to be completed before the course completion certificate will be released.

The prevalence of smoking in Hounslow is 13.6%; in the more deprived areas, this rises to 18.9%. We would like your input to help us develop a three-year plan for tackling tobacco use and its inequalities in Hounslow.
The workshop will feature:
- A keynote talk by Mira Osinibi, Paediatric Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist.
- A summary of the latest smoking data in Hounslow.
- Workshops to identify priorities and model support for smokers across the system in Hounslow.
When: 2-5pm, 14 January 2025.
Where: Room 6.10 Hounslow House, 7 Bath Road, Hounslow, TW3 3EB.
Who: Anyone with an interest is welcome to attend. It will be particularly relevant for those who contribute to the tobacco control agenda in Hounslow, or who work with smokers. Residents are strongly encouraged to join and share their views.

Help Hounslow residents to quit smoking – take the VBA training
Healthy Hounslow is offering Very Brief Advice (VBA) training as part of this year’s Stoptober campaign to help people effectively engage in quick, impactful conversations with residents about how to quit smoking.

VBA is a proven 30-second clinical intervention that identifies smokers, advises them on the best method of quitting, and links them to evidence-based stop smoking support. It’s suitable for anyone who has regular contact with residents; including healthcare professionals, those who work in commissioned services, and those who work in the VCSE sector.
