Lived Experience Sessions for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Patients

two men engaging .JPGFive sessions were organised and delivered in 2022 by five Primary Care Networks. The sessions invited COPD patients to share their lived experiences of having COPD.  The sessions also aimed to understand patients challenges and motivate them to embrace peer support as part of ongoing self-management.

The sessions were conducted by the Hounslow Borough Respiratory Support Group Chair, who narrated his story to inspire others to join the group for accessing peer support.

137 COPD patients booked in 2022, 91 attended and 33 joined the group. An evaluation process in form of an in-depth case study is currently underway to ascertain effectiveness of peer support group – once complete findings will be published on the BBP website.
